The TOKATA YOUTH CENTER began operation in January of 2015, for the purpose of assisting the youth of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe in overcoming daily obstacles, so they can become the next generation of men and women who lead our community towards a better and brighter future.
The purpose of the Tokata Youth Center will be achieved by providing a safe environment where youth can learn culturally relevant Christ-like character qualities, and receive assistance in pursing excellence scholastically. With this foundation the youth of today will have the ability to become the influential leaders of tomorrow.
The Tokata Youth Center is a program of Diamond Willow Ministries. It facilitates out of the "Suicide Prevention Building", and is open from 3:30-6:30 Monday-Friday (see our Policies page for when we do cancel programming). Every Wednesday the Fort Thompson building doesn't hold activities, for we travel to outer districts on Wednesday! (see Policies page for more info)
This after-school time is open for kids from 6-12 year olds whose parents have filled out a free application from the staff. Every day includes free time with games and activities, snack, homework time, sports and crafts, and at promptly 6:00 the children and staff enjoy a meal together. All children are dismissed once they have finished eating and have cleaned up their things.
Teenagers (12 years old and older) also have a time they can enjoy the Tokata Youth Center. Every Tuesday night we have our "TYC Teen Night" from 6:30-9:00 PM. This time has food, games, and quality time with staff and mentors. Activities range from dodgeball, pumpkin carving, or a good old game of Uno!
