How much does it cost to have my child be a part of the Tokata Youth Center programming?
The Tokata Youth Center is a free program for the youth of the Crow Creek community. To assure safety and great communication with guardians, a child needs to have a completed application filled out and signed by a guardian before they can participate in daily programming. This application can be picked up during TYC hours at the Suicide Prevention building.
Is the TYC hiring?
The Tokata Youth Center is always accepting applications for those interested in joining our team to positively impact the next generation. If we aren't currently in need of further staffing, we keep these applications on file for when a position opens up. A background check and drug test is required before a hire can be complete, and we occasionally do random drug tests of all of our staff--even volunteers.
Does the TYC provide a meal everyday?
Yes, we do!! "Snack time" is at approximately 4:40 PM and dinner is at approximately 6:00 PM for the children that have been a part of the TYC programming that day. We strive to have homemade, healthy, and fun snacks and meals daily.
When is the TYC open?
The TYC is open Monday through Friday from 3:30-6:30. On Mondays we alternate between each outer district. On Wednesdays programing is only for teens (13-18 year olds) at the Suicide Prevention Building. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays we are also located at the Suicide Prevention Building.
What does "Tokata" mean?
"Tokata" is the Dakota word for future. The youth are the future of our community and we want to be reminded of that daily.
School is canceled today, will the Tokata Youth Center be opened?
This question and more are explained on our Policy page. In short, if the Crow Creek school district decides that the weather is too dangerous for the students to be outdoors, we also cancel our programming for their safety.
